We are currently in the middle of conference week and what a week it has been.  I just wanted to give a brief update about what we have been working on in class. Recently in Math we have been working a lot with estimating and rounding whole numbers and decimals.  Students are learning new strategies that they can use to help them figure out what place value to round a number to, like compatible numbers. In writing the students are hard at work on their personal narratives.  It is really cool to be able to read some of their writings and learn new things about their families and find out memories that are important to them. We are really focused on using more description in our writing to help build a picture in the readers mind. Other exciting news is in Science.  After many attempts at hatching our little brine shrimp we finally had some success.  The students found out that the brine shrimp tended to like the 4 scoops of salt for their homes.  Now we have moved on to creating our Terrariums.  We are experimenting to find out how different amounts of water effect our plant growth.  Each table group decided how much water to give their plants every other day.  The students are very fascinated with how their plants are already growing. I know that Halloween is coming up and that there is a parade on Friday, but please make sure to review the rules that were given in the class newsletter and the school newsletter.  I will be writing more soon.
